In the 1984 Gibson/Raposo Raggedy Ann or Rag Dolly, Marcella is heavily based on Gruelle's daughter down to a factor most adaptations leave out, that she is deathly ill. This beautifully illustrated children's classic circa 1929 tells of the adventures of Marcella and her beloved group of friends, Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy, Henny, Frederika, Belindy, Sunny Bunny, Little Brown Bear, Johnny Mouse, Squeakie, and Uncle Clem. Raggedy Ann was actually a symbol for the anti-vaccination movement in the early 20 th century. Unfortunately, not much is yet known about the plot of the 1983 musical.
